Dorothy Stewart Nicklas Pansies Pin

This enamel pin originally belonged to Dorothy Stewart Nicklas, University of Pittsburgh.

Details

Tri Delta Founder Sarah Ida Shaw Martin, Boston University, began the tradition of special pieces of jewelry being passed to Fraternity officers for the duration of their term. The earliest pieces were her personal belongings, but over the years items belonging to other early leaders were added to the collection. It became a tradition for the Fraternity's leaders to pass the pieces to their incoming counterparts at the end of their induction ceremony. This pin was donated to the archive by Virginia Nicklas, University of Michigan, the daughter of its original owner.

This pin features three enamel pansies with diamond centers arranged on a gold bar set with four pearls.
