Jean Hunt Gaines, University of California, Los Angeles, was born in Los Angeles on December 12, 1932. She graduated from University of California, Los Angeles, where she was initiated into Theta Pi Chapter in 1951. She was president of her chapter during her sophomore year. Gaines loved singing and dancing and had roles in several Little Rascals movies.

Gaines served as Tri Delta’s president from 1984 to 1986. Prior to that, she had been collegiate vice president from 1982 to 1984, finance director from 1978 to 1980, and associate director of house corporation from 1974 to 1978. In 2007, the Southern California Alumnae Council of Tri Delta created the Jean Hunt Gaines Leadership Scholarship in her honor; the award is given annually to an outstanding collegian from Southern California who demonstrates leadership skills and service to her chapter.

In 1954, she married Kenneth Gaines Jr. In addition to her work with Tri Delta, Gaines was a volunteer at local schools in Orange County, where she lived with her family, and a Girl Scout leader. Gaines passed away on March 21, 2020.
